A regal phoenix using henna/tattoo style linework that mimics Qing Dynasty art.
After experimenting with some intricate linework, I came across an old tattoo I've had on my corkboard since I was a kid. It was of a colorful bird of paradise - I had never used it, because I thought the design was so pretty and I didn't want it to go to waste. I had a thought - maybe I could recreate it to make a version of my own!

The tattoo came from one of those quarter machines, where you get different tattoo designs at random.

I then brought the design into Adobe Illustrator and redrew it to something I wanted, a phoenix in the style of an adult coloring page.
I made a speedpaint time-lapse of how I created the final design:
And here's what the linework looks like without any color. It almost has a look of one of those "adult coloring pages", would anyone want to play with coloring this little guy yourselves? Free download available at my ko-fi.
