Finally got around to making Crater Lake, and while my goal was to use a cricut machine, it soon became quite a headache. Let me explain...
My friend gave me their Cricut Mini, saying they got it as a gift and probably would never use it. I was thrilled, and took it back home, excited to start using it on these lake maps. Here's the thing...the Cricut Mini can't import .SVGs. This means I couldn't use my own designs, but only the set designs provided in the "Cricut-Craft Room" studio. There were no other programs, no other add-ons, and no other workarounds to use the Cricut Mini for the purpose I had in mind.
Well crap, did this mean I had a paperweight for a Cricut machine? Yes, if I just gave up. But I wasn't willing to drop $279 on a new machine, when I had a free one right here.
Here's my janky solution:
The Cricut-Craft Room could let you place their set shapes anywhere in the cutting area, and whatever size. They provided circles, rectangles, letters, and shapes (like pumpkins). So I made my shapes. I used those circles, those rectangles, those parentheses, and a couple pumpkins.
Check this out - this is one of the layers for crater lake, made in Cricut-Craft Room:

I can't stop thinking it looks like a T-Rex head.
And here it is, cutting that shape. Notice the various rubber bands from me reattaching the arm, which had broken off almost immediately upon using it:
And this is how it came out! Not too bad, and now I can make multiples of the same design without hurting my fingers from using an Xacto Knife.

And here you have the finished result. Sure wish I had a Cricut that could import .SVG's, though...
